Cool Adult Bibs

A couple of times a year one of the ladies at work orders adult size bibs from me.  They are for a young adult who has the need to use them.  He likes bright colours and this time I really liked the flannel type fabric I found. 

Here are all 5 of them all sewn and already delivered to him.  Apparently he thought they were cool.

and here they all are.  The 5th one was bright red.

This was a nice project with colourful fabrics making it even more fun....

Romantic Amour Cushion

We had a lovely Thanksgiving evening with our friends here in Canada in Oakville, ON.  

They enjoy hosting this special time each year with us.

We always have a little Christmas gift exchange and for Kirsti especially I sewed a love "Amour" cushion for their bed.   The digital came from graphiquesepia on Etsy.

I am loving the digitals on graphiquesephia and have many more ideas for more projects.  I used the Citrasolv method to transfer the picture on to a 100% cotton fabric, did some sewing

and tied up the ends with satin ribbon and sewed on a little whimsical red heart.

Here it is on my bed just for a photo...

Taking these pictures reminded me of the sausage pillowcase method of making pillowcases.   I need to make a note to myself that when I have some "more" spare time....I would love another pair...

I enjoyed making and giving this cushion to a special friend.  Thank you Kirsti and Peter!

Quilted Rose Placemats for Mom

I sewed 4 quilted placemats for my mother for Christmas last year.  She wanted 2 more and finally last weekend I made them.  Fortunately I had enough of the rose panel that has 4 different roses but had to coordinate a different shade of pink and green fabric with them.

 I measured and cut....

and did some sewing and quilting....

The first 4 had a different rose on each one and quilted were like this one...

but I'm sure she will like these 2 coordinating placemats I'll give her on Monday.  Now she can set up a pretty table for her friends and serve up something special.   In the picture they look like a square but they are rectangular in real life..

Now...what will I make with the rose panels I still have left?  I'll have to think on that.

A Quilt for Madeline

I had recently started to finish a quilt from years ago. I've put it aside again because I had another idea that took me to Fabricland on Sunday. I wanted to make a little quilt for Madeline....something sweet that she can snuggle with on a cold evening or when she's having a little nap.

Madeline loves pinks and purples and I adored this fabric which I'll use as the focal point. It has flowers in pretty colours and butterflies too.

I had no trouble finding pretty fabrics to go with all these lovely colours. In fact I chose 9 different fabrics and some even have butterflies.....
I cut and sewed together 4 large blocks using one each of the 9 different fabric squares.
I'm putting a square of the focal fabric in the middle of the quilt and using 4 ivory squares as well. I will applique and sew something simple on the 4 ivory squares. Hopefully my idea works and then I can share those squares with you later in the week.

I am going to choose a couple of other fabrics for the edges and in between to join the squares. That will mean another trip to Fabricland. How I wish we were having a snow day tomorrow..... :o) but we're not having any snow. I'll have to be patient and wait to work on this after work.

Handmade Pillowcase Dress for Madeline and Mardi....

Tonight Geoff, my eldest son came over for dinner with Madeline. This week I showed you the crochetted dolly I made for her. I asked for suggestions as to what her name should be. Thank you for helping me out with ideas. Marilyn suggested a cute name "Mardi" using the first 3 letters of Marc's name and the last 2 of mine.

Madeline was so impressed that I actually made little Mardi for her.....and she loved her name too. Thank you Marilyn!

I wanted to share some little additional features I gave her. I sewed little blue roses, one on each foot, and one on each shoulder to "hold" up her little blue outfit.

I sewed a little "Love" pendant above her little heart and tucked under one of the little blue roses.

I sewed a label on her little bum...just so Madeline would know the love I put into making it for her. She is 6 and had no problem reading it on her own... :o)

Last spring I made a pillowcase dress for Madeline. Unfortunately it took me until this week to come across it again and give it to her. I had reorganized my fabrics and my vintage pillowcases at that time and the little dress had been tucked away with them.

I ironed on a little purple dragonfly....

Then she tried it on and it fit nicely. She was already wearing a pink top and pink leotards so she left those on to model. She said she may use it as a little nightie in the summertime.

We had such a nice little visit tonight just the 3 of us. Madeline went home with the 2 handmade gifts from me and Geoff with the quilt I had finally finished for him and Kiley.

Isn't it a nice feeling to do something special for someone? Be it making something or just spending the time.... I hope you find some special time this coming weekend too.... Judi xoxo

Handmade Christmas Bear Cushions

In between making products for Christmas sales....like these soy tealights for example,

I've found a little time to make Christmas Bear cushions. They come 4 different bears in a panel.

I just loved the vibrant happy Christmas colours.

I sewed them into cushions and tied up little bows and sewed them on the ribbon pictures on the pattern...... This one is a Christmas plaid ribbon ...


that is the same fabric as the back of the pillows....


This one has a wired ribbon that I already had that goes perfectly...

I added on a red button and a fancy gold button...

I think they would look cute if I used some of that sparkly fabric paint that comes in a tube and wrote Merry Christmas on the bear's bib.

These are going to be little Christmas warming gifts for our children for their homes. The little ones will like them I'm sure.

I'll bring one to my girlfriend next weekend when we visit for the American Thanksgiving...

Geez its hard to concentrate on the work part of my creations with projects like this...Judi xoxo

Clara on PINK Saturday

I want to introduce you to Clara. She is my most recent project, a little PINK dolly. Clara is the perfect little first dolly for a little one. I've made her from soft cuddly PINK fabrics and embroidered her little heart and face. She's filled with polyfil just enough so that she is easily grasped by little fingers.


Clara, little dolly has little PINK ribbon tags so that little fingers can feel their softness. She has been admired as baby shower gifts so I've decided to put her into my Etsy store. She's waiting for loves and going along on little adventures.

Note: Clara went to Etsy and was immediately SOLD! But I have another one in my Etsy shop again and I'm working on a little buddy for her.

Finishing up the Edge/Trim Corners of a Blanket/Quilt Tutorial (my way)

I wanted to post about a baby's blanket I made for a lady at work who was expecting her first child. Don't they have the cutest eyes and expressions? I thought so.

At the time I made a tutorial on how I did the edging and corners on the main side. I used to have some trouble making the corners square but after playing around with it this is how I do it. Many of my quilts and blankets use a contrasting material on the back that becomes the edge binding on the right side. This is easy, tidy and is a nice contrast for the front. It works for me.
I had a lot of interest in this tutorial when it was on Wordpress so I thought I'd bring it to Blogspot as well.

Looking at the front of my completed blanket I measure the panel/material that runs around the completed blanket/quilt which is the right side of the back piece of my blanket/quilt. I want to leave double the width I want the edge/trim to be and cut it to that size.
Along the long side I fold the fabric in half and then half again on to the blanket and pin at that spot.

Beginning at the left side of the short end I place a sharp fold, temporarily pinning that point and fold the bottom up to the bottom edge of the blanket/quilt and then fold up one more time. You might have to adjust the fold until it meets at a perfect and neat angle with the edge of the left-side longer edge. I fold up the rest of that edge pinning along the way to the end.

Turn your blanket/quilt so that you once again begin at the left side with the sharp fold repeating until all four corners are pinned evenly.

I then sew along the folded edge of the trim/edge all the way around. I might use a fancy machine stitch, or small zigzag to close up the fold on the corners, or place delicate hand stitches and sometimes the fabric looks good without doing anything more.

The trim is actually the same width all the way around the blanket although them picture didn't capture this. Were you able to understand my tutorial?
