All Of Sylvia's Children

I have posted before about "Matilda" the store mascot African Violet our store manager rooted a leaf from 5 years ago for each of the 14 employees when the store closed. She was an old plant but always flowering and she went dry whenever I wasn't around to water her.

"Sylvia" above is "Matilda's" daughter the one I was given. She grew into 4 separate plants in this one square red pot and for almost 2 years has been in steady bloom...all 4 plants. It has been difficult to photograph her to show you just how big she really is. Thats how she looked exactly a month ago until today.....

I've been unsuccessful in rooting her for my mother and eldest son Geoff who are so amazed with her and wanted their own plant. So tonight I bit the bullet and carefully separated her into 3 pots. It was rather hard to do (she was so pretty) but she needed to share her love. Now there is one for each of them and the last 2 for me. NOW you can see how big she really WAS in that one pot.
Below she is in 3 different pots!

The one below is my part of "Sylvia" now. One is a smaller plant and and the other one was stretching out of the pot instead of straight up. I'm sure they will straighten up and shift towards the light from the window as they grow in.

I called the others 2 plants, Bonnie and Claudia (because I don't think a Clyde type would flower ... *s*)

This will be mom's "Bonnie"... and will be a Mother's Day gift. My mom will be sooooo happy to have the Violet because hers haven't flowered for her like this one.

and this is Geoff's "Claudia"....

They have water drippings on them because I gave them their weekly warm water sprinkling. They LOVE it.

Until I give them to their new homes I'll be happy admiring their loveliness in their 3 separate containers.
Have a happy day....Judi xoxo

Hi Marilyn
My African Violet sits on a table under a table with sheers in between so they don't get a direct hot sunlight.
No sun in the afternoon actually.
They have African Violet soil which is never sopping wet but I do give the soil a chance to be a bit crumbly dry...
When I water her I take her to the kitchen sink. I have a spray on my faucet and I set that to warm and then I use my hands to sprinle the water all over her leaves...allowing water to find its way into the soil...but I don't let it get too wet.
Thats what she likes.

Judi - What a gorgeous african violet plant. You certainly must give them lots of TLC. In the past I had a glass shelf (about 12 inches wide) in front of a large dining room window specifically for my african violets. Oh, how I loved the view! Where I live now, I just do not have enough sun light and I miss having the violets. I am sure the recipients of the plants will be thrilled with such beautiful and healthy plants. I always thoroughly enjoy your blog. Blessings to you!

Hi Judi, What lovely plants. I can't believe how big you got it to grow. Myself, I don't do well with plants at all. I love the beautiful flowers on yours.
