When I made the quilt for Geoff and Kiley I referred to this great book. I remembered this is the book I learned to make these squares in shadow blocks. This book is fabulous and takes you through the steps to making a quilt. It is all pictures and many different methods and so many different squares.
Tonight I started laying the blocks out on my diningroom table. Arranging them this way and that way trying to get together a pattern using the dark and light sides of each square.
After downloading the pictures I saw I hadn't placed the blocks the right way. See the top right square of the big square in the middle? I had to turn that block to place the dark side down....
So I reorganized the squares .... replaced a few blocks...
There I think thats better. I think I'll be happy with that switch once I have all the squares sewed together.
So far the size is 28"x41". I'll trim the squares to make them all the same size. I hope to find 2 different pretty coordinating fabrics to make borders around the quilt. I don't think I would be choosing this colour scheme and fabrics if I was doing it now but I am up for the challenge to finish it up and see how I make out with it.
Do you have a project you started years ago to finish?
Hope you have fun finishing it up also.... Judi xoxo

A pleasant surprise in finding these block...I really like the layout you have chosen. Good thing you found the error in placement before you started the sewing.
Have a great week...stay warm and dry!
Hi Judi! What a nice surprise to find all of your pretty squares. I love the look of your quilt! Now you'll be a busy little bee till you finish it. Hope it's not too cold at your house.

Judi: I was out to the Amish General Store on Monday to get a "storm" project. Lots of nice prints. This summer remind me to show you the project my grandmother started. It is now 125 years young. Love from the lakeside, Georgia
Oh how beautiful, not sure how I missed this post! It was way down in my sidebar! Anyway, I love finding old projects that I started so long ago! I actually have some baby blankets that I have saved for many years! They belonged to my oldest grandchildren! I wanted to make a quilt for them our of pieces of their baby blankets! Great idea just never did it! At this point maybe I will get them made before they have children! You know, my Mama always made quilts and seeing these patterns brings back sweet memories! Have a blessed day dear Judi! HUGS!
Hi Judi
It's looking fantastic and will be so beautiful when it's finihsed. There looks to be lots of hard work in it so you must get it finished.
I don't have any unfinished projects but I do have several kits that I have never even started!
