Do you know we don't have bills for $1.o0 and $2.00 any longer? We haven't for some time. We have a large coin for each about the size of a silver dollar. The $1.00 coin has a loon on it. We have loons on most of our lakes so I guess its a favourite bird, water bird anyway. Therefore EVERYONE knows the $1.00 coin as a "Loonie". You don't say "do you have a dollar?" You say "do you have a loonie?"
Our $2.00 coin has a polar bear on it. I don't know exactly why that bear was chosen. It makes it sound indeed like we all live in igloos and have polar bears cruising around the igloo. I remember when they had a contest deciding what would be put on the $2.00 coin. At any rate it is only fair that it is officially called a "Toonie". It rhymes with Loonie and it is "two" dollars.
A typical conversation we all have at some point is... "I have a toonie can you give me 2 loonies". So if you come visiting to Canada you now know the money lingo.... Love Judi xoxo
Hi Judi, Thanks for visiting me! Very interesting about the Canadian money:) I learned something new! Love your background and design. Have a blessed day!
Now that's funny! I love hearing about your coins and they are both really pretty. I have heard there may be a $1 coin in our future. Hope not. They are heavier than paper---not that I'd have that many. LOL What an interesting post! I hope you have a great day. We have the shed cleaned out and down. Now to get it built and re-junked up. LOL
Are you guys looney-toonie, or what????? lolol (just kidding)!
Morning, Judi! Oh, this is fun. Mr. Precious would love this post - he collects coins and I know he has some Canadian ones, but probably doesn't know this! Thanks for popping in and hope all is well with you.
Be a sweetie,
When my kids were younger they use to love getting Loonies when hubby would come back from business trips to Canada. We don't live far away from Canada at all so a lot of the smaller Canadian change is often given as change here in MI.
Have a great day!
I like the look of your money better than mine. Send me some!
Well I learned something new today !That was very interesting about the money Judi !
I really enjoyed learning about your loonies and toonies! Your money is so cute. I would love it if you shared pictures of your other coins too. I have never seen a canadian coin.
That is too funny but very interesting!! I do hope to visit in Canada someday.
That was very interesting! I never knew that before. I love Toonie and Loonie.
Hi Judi! Oh, thank you for sharing my joyness! Our daughter and SIL waited until we flew up for our cruise before they told us! I can't believe she was able to keep that secret! :)
We just found out Saturday before last! She's due in March and thank you...I appreciate it that you can see the resemblance! :)
Be a sweetie,
Hi, Judi....thanks so much for this info on your money. The coins are beautiful!! I wish our money was different colors...that would make it a lot easier.
Be sure to see my 11th post..your sweetness is shown!! :O)
Did you get an email from me?
Judi, I never thought about it, but of course it would be less confusing if our bills were different colors. The Canadian coins are so pretty, and their nick-names are so fun. Thank you for a really interesting post. laurie
